In today’s fast-paced work environments, which are often marked by downsizing, tight deadlines, competition, and constant organizational changes, achieving success hinges upon an individual’s ability to effectively navigate and even excel under stress. Resilience emerges as a key attribute, encompassing the capacity to bounce back from challenges and transform them into valuable learning experiences. Within the workplace, resilience manifests through problem-solving, tackling obstacles head-on, and swiftly recovering from mistakes. For instance, an employee demonstrates resilience by returning to work after a traumatic event or by persisting to meet project deadlines despite encountering difficulties along the way.

ADP Research Institute published reports of a global study of resilience and engagement, conducted across 25 countries, surveying a minimum of 1,000 people per country, counting to around 26,000 participants.

The objective of the study was to understand the association between resilience and employee engagement, which in turn reflects, overall corporate wellness. Employees who were totally engaged were dedicated to the company’s purpose, sure in their intent of excellence, confident in their teamwork, and excited by their organization’s future, compared to those who were not fully engaged.

The key insights of the study showed that – 

  • Only 15% of the global workers were highly resilient
  • The employee engagement levels are 14X high if the workers trust their manager or team leader.

Since COVID-19 happened, remote working has become the new normal, and many workers prefer hybrid or remote working over on-site working modes – 

  • Virtually-working employees – 20% highly engaged and 18% highly resilient
  • On-site employees – 11% highly engaged and 9% highly resilient
